Second meeting of WashMedia-South Asia meeting to be held in Dhaka Bangladesh on March 04 and 05, 2012

Background

Regional Media forum on WASH was established during two day meeting in February 2011 which was attended by 29 journalists from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and

Sri LankaThe forum has following objectives:

 

  1. Extensively writing and broadcasting on important but ignored issues of water, sanitation and hygiene
  2. Collectively targeting important political meetings, regional and international events to improve governance and accountability
  3. Bringing to light human tragedies, mainly of women and children, hidden behind crude statistics
  4. Sharing stories, knowledge and learning with fellow journalists across the region

 

In last one year forum members have been actively pursuing above objectives to publish and broadcast issues related to water & sanitation. Forum members have also worked for improving internal communication, ways of working and strengthening. However, there are still several challenges to make this network and vibrant voice of media in the region working exclusively to promote right to water and sanitation with special focus on poor and marginalized people and communities.

The two day follow up meeting of core group of the forum members is planned after one year to take the stock and strategize future activities. Meeting will have following specific objectives:

  • Reflection on year one- what went well and what are the challenges and opportunities? What need to be improved?
  • Articulation of future aspirations, planning the activities for 2012
  • Discussion and decision on improving ways of working
  • Finalizing the stories and design for media scrap book

Participants:

2 journalists from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka

One communication officer or person working with media from WaterAid country programmes

Regional Advocacy Manager-WaterAid South Asia

Brenda from WaterAid UK Media team

Venue: Dhaka

Dates: March 4-5 (All guests will arrive on 3rd March and leave on 6th March)

WashMedia-South Asia is a group of South Asian journalists working on water, sanitation and hygiene issues. Theses journalists are from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
